Succulant Flower

Bottlebrush

"Succulent Flower" Sunday 28th October 2006

"Bottlebrush" Sunday 22nd October 2006

Beautiful pink flower on the end of a succulent stem. These succulents are quite popular (and our garden is full of them) as they require very little watering. Water restrictions are in force in many parts of Australia. About four years ago we re did our gardens, took away the lawn, added a day bed, water tolerant plants, screens and it now becomes an'outdoor room' which gets used far more than it would have if the half dead lawn was still around! In fact we are having a bbq today as you look at this! I will show my garden in full perhaps next Sunday.
Taken just yesterday in the lovely afternoon sun, a native bottlebrush plant with it's terrific bright, unique flowers..

A beautiful transluscent bromeliad flower

An older photo of mine today, taken approximately one year ago. Last week this image was selected to go in a calender for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. (To be used internally for staff, not for sale). As I look out my window I see that the flowers are back again just as beautiful this year. I'm sorry to say at this point I don't know the species of plant, but I will endeavour to find out, and let you know. I believe it may be a sedum.

A lovely Australian native hibiscus. In flower during Spring and much of Summer with these lovely unique purple flowers. This shot was taken in my mothers lovely garden.

"Purple Echium " Sunday 10th September 06

To go with Fridays 'Other' shot, more from the Tesselaar Tulip Festival today. Rows and rows of beautifully coloured tulips.

Some beautiful Ranuncula I snapped a couple of weeks ago. Similar to the poppy, but with a grander flower in my opinion. It's a pity they don't last particularly long. Spring has certainly sprung here in Melbourne, all the trees are in blossom, and new growth is appearing everywhere.

My new weekly entry in 'Green Thumb Sunday'. A new nature image every Sunday. I took this just last Thursday down on the Williamstown Foreshore. One of my favourite plants, particularly now at the start of Spring when it has these beautiful tall purple spikes. They remind me a little of Marge Simpson! It is an Echium.
