Leaving the game
"Leaving the game HDR" Tuesday 14th June 2011
Another attempt at some HDR photography. I took this shot yesterday in the city as the Collingwood and Melbourne supporters were leaving the big game at the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground). This walkway connects Birrarung Marr and the city with the sporting ground. Final score was Collingwood 129, Melbourne 41. Oh dear.

Casey Dellacqua warms up for her win over Karolina Sprem at the Australian Tennis Open last week. Last night Serena Williams went on to win this years title. The men's title will be decided tonight when Roger Federer takes on Andy Murray.
Marcos Bahdatis watching Casey Dellacqua beat Karolina Sprem at the Australian Tennis Open last week. The following day he was to pull out of his own match against Lleyton Hewitt because of a shoulder injury.
I watched the Australian Tennis Open last Thursday. Roger Federer played Victor Hanescu. Part way through the match Prince William arrived to a warm round of applause. You can see him here, as Roger serves, in the front row. Later he also saw Casey Dellacqua beat Karolina Sprem.

There are reports coming out of America today that Tiger Woods has been seriously injured in a car accident. He was reportedly leaving his home when he crashed into a fire hydrant and a tree. It was just a fortnight ago Tiger was here in Melbourne thrilling the crowds at the JBWere Masters.
Stuart Appleby on the last day of the JBWere Australian Masters last Sunday. He finished 8th.
Greg Chalmers was the runner-up in last weekends JBWere Australian Masters. He played solidly for the full four days, and did well to be equal with Tiger after the third day.

A crowd favourite for the JBWere Australian Masters, Adam Scott, on the last day of the tournament. Adam finished 6th overall.
My favourite for the JBWere Australian Masters, James Nitties. This was James looking at his ball roll away from the flag after he carefully chipped it out of the bunker. He was unfortunate to end up with a bogey on this 8th hole on the final day. James ended up in fifth position overall, well done!
Tiger Woods walking onto the 17th tee ahead of winning the JBWere Australian Masters earlier today at the Kingston Heath Golf Club. Melbourne lapped up the opportunity to see Woods back in Australia after an absence of about ten years. Hopefully now that he has won, he will return to defend his title next year. Golf has been the big winner with the tournament being a great success, golf courses being booked out, and many new people taking interest in the sport. Thanks Tiger!

Undoubtably the 'footballer of the year'. Lance 'Buddy' Franklin has created much interest in the Australian Football League (AFL) this year. On the last round of the normal home and away season Buddy kicked his 100th goal for the season, a superb effort. Buddy plays for the Hawthorn Football Club who is now one of four teams left in the run for the 2008 Premiership. I took this shot of Buddy last Tuesday whilst he was training at Waverley park. He also gave me his autograph for my sons birthday, thanks Buddy! Hawthorn plays St Kilda this Saturday for a spot in the final. Geelong plays the Western Bulldogs on Friday night for the other spot. The grand final will be held on Saturday 27th September 2008. Go Hawks!
These two young folk were enjoying themselves, oblivious to all around them, down at Southgate the other night. The red steps in the background are actually the back of an entrance to the car park for Crown Casino.

I showed you the fly over for Anzac day yesterday here, today up close and personal with some of the veterans in the march down Swanston Street. ANZAC Day 2008. (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps)
Andy Roddick last night played Philipp Kohlshreiber in what was nearly a four hour battle. Kohlshreiber eventually won the Australian Open match after five long sets, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, 6-7, 8-6. Roddick would have been far happier this time last week when he asked if he could trade his three consecutive AAMI Classic wins for one Australian Open title. Here he is raising his trophy last Saturday in Kooyong.
What can I do for a job?! Mmmm I know! Squeeze myself through a tennis raquet in public. There are many buskers around Melbourne, all with their own style. This guy got his whole body through the constraints of a tennis raquet!

Fire juggling, dancing, retro busker performing at the edge of Federation Square, Melbourne. Just glad I wasn't one of the audience he pulled up to join in and embarrass!
This puppet was busking down at Southgate not long ago. He played tunes including Elton Johns' "Piano Man" and many other huge hits. Not sure what the guy in the white top had to do with it all!
Looking down at the 'rat race' from an office building off Flinders Street. This is where Flinders street meets Elizabeth street, and where many flock to catch trains in and out of the city each day.

One of the many 'secrets' around Melbourne. This is a rock climbing wall hidden under the Monash Freeway leading out of the city. It sits adjacent to the Yarra river and is only discovered by passing cyclists on the endless bike paths. There are 3 walls of differing levels/difficulty. A great activity for the whole family and it's free!!
I told you on Wednesday it's the year of the lifesaver here in Australia. You can see here some very 'wooden' lifesavers. These two likely lads, however, were far from wooden, literally bouncing all over Federation Square during the recent FINA swimming championships. I wouldn't cross them if I were you!

Taken outside the front of the Crown Casino complex on Southbank Boulevard. These kids were having great fun diving in and out of the water jets shooting up from the ground last Saturday. Love the look on the face of the little boy on the very right.
